What do you do with your used motor oil?
If you have ever changed your oil by your own, you should know that it is important to recycle or dispose of it properly. Here you will find some tips for handling and disposing used lubricants and oil after refilling with the new one.
Let's put together a few things about your used engine oil
So we start with a few important tips to keep in mind when changing your own oil:
- When emptying the oil pan and removing the filter, it is very important that every drop of used lubricantsl is collected. This prevents it from being flushed away into a stream or storm drain, or from finding its way into the ground soil.
- Collect the used oil in a clean plastic or metal container with a tightly closed lid. Only use containers that are made of suitable plastic, e.g. PE (polyethylene) or similar material. Cola bottles, plastic water bottles or coated brick packs are not suitable containers for used motor oil. Or just use the bottle in which you bought the new lubricants.
- Don't mix the oil with other automotive liquids, any admixture of foreign substances such as solvents or household chemicals (such as differential oil, brake and cooling fluids, antifreeze, solvents, paint, etc.). Don't use containers in which the aforementioned liquids and chemicals have been stored.
